About Portraiture

"FACE IT. PORTRAITURE IS BACK...
Portraiture has become the rising star of contemporary art."

Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery, 2007

A fine portrait is a tribute to an individual that elegantly portrays the outer appearance and can also suggest the inner spirit. The portrait process begins with collaboration between the client, the subject and the artist to explore and articulate an engaging vision.

Two types of portraits are available: Fine Portraits and Portrait Studies

Fine Portraits

Fine Portrait Fine Portraits are approximately life size and are created with archival media. Portraits are offered with your choice of oil paint and mixed media on canvas, or pastel and mixed media on paper. Prices include a photography session at the artist’s studio, or by advance agreement on location as described on the price list. Typically over 100 photographs are taken from which the artist will recommend selected photographs as the point of departure for the portrait. Portraits on paper are generally completed within 2 months after the photographs are taken and selected. Portraits on canvas require at least 4 months due to paint drying time. Archival framing is included in pricing.
