Portraiture Procedure

The special occasion of having a portrait created is a memorable expression of love, pride, and esteem. Portraiture is a tribute to the unique qualities of an individual which can elegantly capture not only the outer appearance, but can also suggest the inner spirit.
Procedure
Portraits are approximately life size and are created on archival surfaces with archival materials. During the initial conversation the client and artist discuss the portrait concept including: single or multiple subjects, size, composition, formal or informal pose, mood, setting, clothing, props, lighting, intended location of portrait, time frame, and client’s ideas. A preliminary agreement is signed and a 25% deposit is paid. Prices include a photography session of 2-3 hours at the artist’s studio, or by advance agreement on location. A portrait composition will be mutually selected from photographs presented by the artist after which work on the portrait will begin.
Portraits on paper are generally completed within 2 months after the photographs are taken and selected. Portraits on canvas require at least 4 months due to paint drying time. Balance is due when the painting is completed. Prices do not include sales tax, framing, or shipping. Optional framing services are available. Additional fees apply for on-location photography sessions beyond the Massachusetts South Shore, SouthCoast and Upper Cape regions. Intricate clothing, very detailed background and oversized work may be at additional cost.
