Reflections
I'm happiest when I'm in in some stage of a creative project. Dreaming about, preparing for, and bringing ideas to life captivates and energizes me. Giving form to the imagination has always been endlessly engaging, challenging, and rewarding for me.
For me, art exists at the doorstep between my inner and outer worlds, where I discover what I think, feel, sense, dream, experience and intuit. It is where personal meaning can be discerned.
I cannot remember a time when I did not love--LOVE--to draw. I was once told (by someone who didn't know me well) not to pursue art as profession because "there is nothing you can do with it." I replied, "It's not a choice; it's who I am."
Today, I'm grateful to have made a rewarding career of art for over four decades. As an artist and writer, I have learned much about the creative process and its capacities to help one grow. I've learned a lot about me, and I am still learning. As a teacher of art, by providing a welcoming and nurturing space for the creative process, I've accompanied others to more deeply come to know themselves and the world as they experience it through their art. In so many ways, I consider it magical.
I enjoy visual art , design, and writing. Visual work involves the making of things, images and objects, often conveying what cannot be said in words. Design organizes the visual, creating things and spaces of meaning and aesthetic attributes. The written paints pictures with words, and their endless combination is an infinite palette of color, nuance, and depth. All together, these integrate within me, and it is sometimes difficult for me to consider one without the other.
Here I will share reflections on some of my projects, thoughts, discoveries, ideas and wanderings as I attempt to convey what I mean by a holistic approach to art as I have come to know it. I'm working on a number of pursuits at the moment and can't wait to share them with you! Thank you for joining me in this new creative journey.
